Overview

Rules Files are the recommended model for more structured and scalable Seller integrations. Instead of storing everything in a single flat file, the data is split into multiple files based on its purpose.

This approach is especially useful when the Seller has more complex pricing logic, detailed commercial conditions, and stricter operational restrictions.

Important Note

The files and tables in this section are representative examples showing the maximum scope of fields and accepted formats. Every supplier is unique; you may omit or leave empty any fields that do not apply to your specific business model or are not required by your systems.

Core concepts

In a Travelgate Rules File integration, your inventory is divided into three main entities:

  1. Hotel: the physical property.
  2. Rate: the set of booking conditions, cancellation policies, and surcharges under which rooms are sold.
  3. Room: the physical room types attached to a rate, which later receive the pricing and conditions.

The integration has two phases:

  • Setup phase: creating the Hotels, Rates, and Rooms in Inventory (the Master Files).
  • Load phase: loading restrictions and pricing into those Rates (the Pricing Files).

If you have any doubts, keep in mind that all the operations described here are exactly the same as the ones you can perform using the Inventory Push Sellers API.

Main structure

The Rules File model is organized in two large groups:

  1. Master Files: hotels, rates, and rooms
  2. Pricing Files: restrictions, price per room, price per standard occupancy, price per occupancy, and price by age range

Why use Rules Files

Rules Files allow Travelgate to keep the integration organized and easier to maintain. They separate:

  • product structure and master data
  • commercial conditions and rate definitions
  • operational restrictions and stop-sales logic
  • dynamic pricing calculations

This makes the integration more predictable, easier to validate, and easier to scale.

How Travelgate handles them

Travelgate can accept:

  • the Seller's own Rules File format
  • a standard Travelgate Rules File format if the Seller prefers a common onboarding template

In both cases, the files are validated, mapped, and adapted to the Travelgate marketplace so Buyers can consume the product in a standardized way.

info

Rules Files are the preferred model for complex Sellers because they separate the master setup from the pricing logic and operational conditions.
